DYW Fife – Peer Mentoring & Volunteering
Fairway Fife is proud to partner with DYW Fife (Developing the Young Workforce) to offer local high school students aged 16+ exciting opportunities to gain practical experience through volunteering and peer mentoring.
The programme provides young people with the opportunity to become positive role models and make a real difference to the lives of Fairway Fife’s young members.
Peer Mentoring
Our student volunteers support young members through a range of activities, helping them to build confidence, communication skills and positive social connections.
Working alongside our experienced team, volunteers develop an understanding of peer mentoring and learn how to provide encouragement, support and inclusion in a safe and welcoming environment.
Developing Skills & Experience
Volunteering with Fairway Fife gives students the chance to develop a wide range of transferable skills that can support their future education, employment and career goals.
Students can develop:
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Confidence and self-belief
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Leadership and mentoring skills
- Problem-solving and decision-making
- Responsibility and professional conduct
- Organisation and time management
- An understanding of inclusion and disability awareness
Training & Qualifications
Students have access to accredited training, youth awards and qualifications, helping them to recognise their achievements and build their CVs.
Opportunities may include training in areas such as safeguarding, health and safety, communication, disability awareness and peer mentoring, alongside personal development and youth achievement awards.
Making a Difference
Our volunteers play an important role in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for Fairway Fife’s young members. Through regular weekly activities, they provide friendship, encouragement and positive peer support.
The experience is mutually beneficial — young members gain confidence and social skills, while student volunteers gain valuable workplace experience, qualifications and a greater understanding of supporting others.

The skills and experience gained through the programme can help students take their next steps towards employment, further education, apprenticeships and volunteering.
