Self-Directed Support (SDS) gives people in Scotland greater choice, flexibility and control over how their care and assistance is arranged.
If your local authority has assessed you as needing additional care or assistance, SDS gives you more say in how your budget is used and how you achieve the things that matter to you.
Your SDS options
There are four ways you can choose to use your SDS budget:
Option 1 — Manage your own budget
You receive your budget as a Direct Payment, giving you the freedom to arrange your own assistance, employ staff or purchase services.
Option 2 — Choose who works with you
You choose the organisation or provider that suits you, while your local authority, a broker or the provider manages the budget.
Option 3 — Your local authority arranges it
Your local authority manages your budget and arranges the care and assistance you need.
Option 4 — A combination
You can combine Options 1, 2 and 3 to create a flexible arrangement that works for you.
